Wallaby
Walking Festival

The Wallaby Walking
Festival, held in the Staffordshire Moorlands on
October 24 and 25, attracted nearly 200 walkers and
raised many thousands of pounds for
charities.
The event was deemed such
a success the organisers have decided to extend it
to three days next year and run it over a weekend -
Oct 20, 21 and 22nd.
The man who thought up the
idea, Leek businessman John Knox, said: "The walks
attracted large numbers of young people. In 2007
the theme will be to get children
walking.
"If they get into the
walking habit while they are young, it will help
them to keep slim and healthy."
The Leek Group of the
Ramblers' Association and the Long Distance
Walkers' Association will be helping to organise
the six walks - from a 25-mile marathon to
five-mile family walks.
They plan to hold a
competition open to all school pupils in the
Moorlands to design the best poster to get children
walking.
Full details of the
festival are available from Leek Tourist
Information Centre at 01538 483471.
