Mon. 21 Aug 2001 Just had a great holiday in the Leek area. We used this
web site to find out about all the various attractions in
the area, we didn't have time to see everything so we will
be back next year. C. Roff Sun, 12 Aug 2001 John and Mary Moss (Moss) married in Alstonefield on
13.4.1820. On applying to come to Australia John gives his
address as Dove Head, Leek. Ros Fornaro Sat, 11 Aug 200 Hi If anyone who went to Westwood at the same time as I did (5th year 1974/75) wants to get in touch contact me on Jue37@aol.com I was Julia Bettson back then Now Julia Robinson, It would be good to catch up again. I have contacted Mark Nicholson through a website called friendsreunited.co.uk .. He has told me what a few of you are up to but I would love to know about the rest of you !! I left Leek in 1975, moving to the north east, and Im still here... so drop me a line.... Sat. 11 Aug. 2001 Nice to hear about some of the successes when people are tracing friends and family through Leekonline. It makes it all worth while. Tony Smith Thu, 9 Aug 2001 A big thanks to your web site. Since, I signed your guest book a year ago, I have been contacted by 3 old friends from school. I attended Westwood Heath in 1979. My family all are originally from Leek and have many friends and family there. If any one has any connection to the Jackson family, I would love to hear from you. They were a large Catholic family. Lived on Park Road. My father was born Michael Terrance Jackson, was adopted and name changed to Kane. He grew up in Leek and married my mother Thelma Pickford, and moved to the US in the 60's. Thanks again for a wonderful web site. Sincerely, Tue, 07 Aug 2001 My wife was an evacuee in late sept. 1939 and was
billeted with a wonderful family called Mr. and Mrs. Myatt.
This family lived in a large house with extensive gardens
(requiring at that time two gardeners). Mr. Myatt was an
owner of a silk mill in Maccelsfield (?). Any and all help will be deeply appreciated. Muriel and Watcyn Jones (watcynjones@home.com) Mon, 6 Aug 2001 Hi there, My name's Robbie Cole and I was a pupil at Leek High
School during the years 86-89. I'd be very interested in
speaking with anyone who remembers any of the following
names: Robbie Cole (me, obviously), Kate Hall, Barry John,
Chris Day, Richard James, Justin King, Mark Platts, Ian
Clark, Willis Meredith, Ian Clark, Darren Meharg, Martin
Glover. Kind regards, Sun, 5 Aug 2001 Yes, I do have friends in Leek !! Thanks for your understanding and friendship during my stay near your town. You are always welcomed in America - and definitely in Oregon!! Pancakes will improve with time!! You have a place to crash ! You are in my heart and I will never forget you. Thanks to your kindness, you made my stay wonderful. BANG THE DRUM !! Glad I was able to enjoy a gig !! Ya'll are great!! Sat, 28 Jul 2001 Hello to Leek and to the Boulton-Lear's Mary, Tue, 24 Jul 2001 G' Day, Martin
Hanley, Wed, 18 Jul 2001 I signed the visitors book several weeks ago and got in touch with an old friend Andy Ramsden, visit his website Scooby's Kennel its excellent and has some pictures of Alton towers etc. By the way Andy, beautiful baby. Leek people should be proud of Leekonline. I now work in Congleton but miss the people who I used to work with at British Trimmings they were a grand bunch, hope to see anybody who knows me uptown and about. cheers. Thu, 12 Jul 2001 We've lived in Leek all our lives and find this site a true representation of the town and reminds us how proud we are 2 be a part of the community. Lots of love Tue, 10 Jul 2001 I am trying to contact a long lost cousin by the name of JOHN MORETON ( in his 60's by now) and his elder brother BILL MORETON. There parents were Bill and Cissy Moreton (nee Everton) They lived in Leek during the l940's and l95O's. If anyone knows of these people, could they e-mail me on cceramic@bigpond.com.au My maiden name was Irene Everton & I lived in S-on-T. I last saw John around l956 and he had a friend Russell Fearn. Would like to know if John has any info.about the Evertons. Mon, 9 Jul 2001 I don't know about "several" pints of Peddy, I was only 15 at the time!!! lmao I noticed on the few occasions I have passed through Leek on the way to Stoke that it appears to have "grown" alot. Thinking back, the atmosphere used to be a bit like The Rovers Return. (a bit I said). Best Leek memory; Larking about with some trolleys from Normid. We were
racing them down Derby street and one lad who shall remain
nameless running like hell and letting it rip down the hill
past Baileys sports/cub uniform/air pellet shop towards
Saint Edwards Street (if my memory serves me correctly) We
all jogged back up Derby street trying not to split our
spleens with laughter, only to hear a deep growling
"OY...you lot!" coming from behind us. Lo and behold, 2
coppers running back up the same street past Baileys pushing
the same trolley! Keep up the good work Webmaster, I may return again some day and buy you a pint. Mon. 9 Jul 2001 I am glad all you people out there enjoy my web site, it
is very encouraging when it generates so much feedback via
the 'guestbook'. In answer to a couple of the previous
questions, yes there were two 'Cock Inns' the second one in
the Market Place has long since closed down and is now a
shop I will try and find a photo' and post it on the web
site. Keep the comments coming folks
Sun, 8 Jul 2001 I, too, left my Email address on Leek-on-line and had a few contacts with people from the past. I would like to find an old mate named John Walton, who was at school with me and who came from Longsdon. I think he worked for British Telecom at some stage but I have not seen or heard anything of him for about 40 years! He will be about 57 ish now. I have a question as well. Is there, or was there, two pubs in Leek called "The Cock"? I have recently been told that there was one in Derby Street, and one in Market Place. I can remember the first but not the second as it is many years since I was "home" and I think "old-timers disease" is setting in! Regards, John D. Spooner. (Javea, Spain) Sun, 8 Jul 2001 Leekonline is a wonderful way to get in touch - the message from Lawrence Hanley has meant that we have been able to get in touch with an old friend - thanks to John Maycock for spotting the message - we will pass his message on to others - and we look forward to using Leekonline again. Sun, 8 Jul 2001 I left my details on here with an email address asking
that anyone who knew me and wanted to get in touch to feel
free to do so. They did. Blast from the past last week as an
old neighbour got in touch. Very nice to hear from them too.
I have to say though that anybody wanting to try and make
contact or find old school friends might want to try
http://www.friendsreunited.co.uk/ It is a fiver for full
registration but you can get around it and still allow
people to contact you if you have your details on a website
like I do. Just put the url in your details! (works out free
that way) A fiver!! Scandalous or what? In a week i have had
two contacts through it though so its worthwhile for
curiosity if nothing else. Take care Leek. Wed, 4 Jul 2001 The person requesting photographs of the U16 England v Scotland please get in touch with Leekonline as your e-mail is being bounced back.
Mon, 2 Jul 2001 Looking For
Fri, 29 Jun 2001 Saying Hi to all my Family and friends in the Leek area. My name is Kay Mckay, I am from Leek. Most of my Family live in and around Leek. I live in Canada now. My name was Robinson. If you knew me in school, and would like to keep in touch, please Email me at Mckaykay@hotmail.com.I am enjoying the web site of Leek and will come back to the site often. Yours sincerely Fri, 29 Jun 2001 Hi all. I lived in Leek for just about six months a few years ago. Hard times for me personally but great people, great place. Really welcoming and with a great sense of humour. Really must visit again soon. Wed, 27 Jun 2001 Just found Leekonline what an excellent idea makes me proud of my hometown where I still live. Wed, 27 Jun 2001 To the writer from Vancouver, it seems to me that most of the people with fond memories of Leek haven't lived there for many years, I have to side with Claire on this one. I was born and raised in leek , and after an unfortunate incident, moved to weymouth. (near portsmouth for those people who still believe 1 mile is a long way to drive to work). The difference I found in the two areas was incredible, and although I didn't stay in the south of England it made me realize I could not ever live in Leek again. I now live in the USA and haven't been back to the UK in over 8 years. Wed, 27 Jun 2001 This is a great site. My Grandmother Ann Elizabeth Pegg from Leek, came to New Zealand with her father and siblings early in the 1900's I would like contact with family or information about her mother Hannah Hansell born 1864 Onecote, Staffs and died Cheddleton 1890's. I have a picture of a mature woman we believe to be her sister Selina Brown. On the back of the photo is these words - Mrs A. Nixon, Rockadilla Farm, Biddulph Moor and Selina Brown age 58 on 27/12/1926 Also Ann's family, Thomas Pegg married Sarah Bishop 5/2/1853. Their family included my Gt. grandfather Ralph Pegg born Cheddleton 18/3/1863 and died Nelson, N.Z. 12/11/1914 I would really like to hear from anyone in Leek, either family or genealogists. Raymond Pahl. Tue, 26 Jun 2001 To Claire I would point out that Portsmouth (where I spent some time in the navy) is a large county borough highly industrialised and a the largest naval base population 230,000 Leek is a small market town on the edge of the largest national park population 19,000, if Leekites want more expensive, larger supermakets they go to Stoke on Trent which takes about 10 minutes less time than to get across town in pompey and as for shopping malls (ugh) and friendliness and interest in your neighbours go hand in hand people only know what you tell them! nuff said. All the best Tue, 26 Jun 2001 Howdy from Texas. I've left message here before and have had a lot of help from some of you. I recently found out a great aunt married a Lovenbury back in very early 1900's. Are there any Lovenburys in town who can claim a Tatton as an ancestor? Mon, 25 Jun 2001 Like Zoë, who signed the visitor's book a couple of
days ago, I also live in Vancouver, British Columbia,
Canada. One of the great things about the visitor's book is
the appreciation it gives for the far-flung Leek empire...
we've had entries from all over the world. I first signed
the visitor's book in July, 1999 (one of the very first
entries I think) and since then many, many people have
contributed. Geoff
Burston Mon, 25 Jun 2001 At least my comments sent to the visitors book provoked a
response from Harry Barnish. I have revisited Leek on many
occasions since moving south,as my mother still lives in the
town, and I have never been overwhelmed by the changes
referred to. I suppose I have been spoilt living in
Portsmouth with its maritime heritage. We have several large
shopping developments, the latest being Gunwharf, full of
shops and housing, which has been built alongside the
harbour on the site of an old naval establishment. The only
retail developments that Leek has seen are charity shops and
low cost supermarkets i.e. Aldi, Kwik Save and Wilkinsons.
Where are the Tescos, Sainsburys and AsdaWalmarts? I still enjoy the odd oatcake, with cheese and bacon, which can be purchased from my local Sainsbury Store. Mon, 25 Jun 2001 My father, Geoff Cook, was born in Leek in 1926 and sadly departed 12th June 2001. I am interested to hear from anybody who may know something of the family history even though he last lived in Leek in 1949. His mother's name was Evelyn and father Harry and the elder brother Harry was killed during World War 2. Sadly his younger brother Terry is also no longer with us having passed away last year. Mon, 25 Jun 2001 Dear all ex Westwood High School - Class of 1989 / 1991 On Saturday 25 June I visited Leek (called for a drink at the Roe Buck Inn) on the way up to visiting my parents and old family home in a neighbouring village to Leek. My name is Melanie Armstrong (nee Simpson). I went to St Edwards Middle School and Westwood High School & Sixth Form (left 6th Form in 1991). I left Leek also that summer to move to Manchester, went to University in Manchester and haved worked/lived up in Manchester for the past 10 years. I bumped into an old school friend, Nicola Denny who suggested that I log on to Leek On- Line and sign the "Leek Visitors Book". We are now trying to organise a boozy reunion night out (around Leek of course!) with all old school mates. In the meantime it would be great to hear from any old pals. I have really lost touch but still obviously visit my parents near Leek and so I am often passing but have never bumped into anyone over the 10 years !!! Please get in touch for a laugh and some reminiscing !! my e-mail address is:- melanie.c.armstrong@uk.andersen.com Regards Sun, 24 Jun 2001 It has been a while since I have lived in Leek. It is a
darling town with many fine bars! I had a wonderful time
during my few years living in Sheepmarket, and I miss the
community spirit. Sat, 23 Jun 2001 G'day from Australia. I am researching my family tree and
in particular the EVERTON family. I have cousins Bill and
John MORETON, who lived in Leek (hopefully still do) I last
saw John about around 1956. I lived in Blurton, S-on-T. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the Moretons,
please Fri, 22 Jun 2001 Claire Marchbank is terribly wrong to say that Leek has not changed, the moans and complaints that one reads in LP&T letters are normal in any town and what about the improvements? Leek now has 4 of the latest supermarkets built in the last year or so, old buildings have had £1000's of grant money spent on them and have been renovated to high standards some old mills that were past there use now are converted to flats and old persons residencies, the local trade in antiques is phenominal and thriving she should see the new Britannia Buiding Society buildings and new medical centres built since she left, perhaps she ought to revisit and have a surprise, there's the new golf course etc. etc. perhaps she might look into people from London and such areas buying second homes in Leek and wonder why. All the best to Leek we love it. Thu, 21 Jun 2001 I left Leek 14 years ago in1987 to live in Portsmouth and
marry my fiancé, a sailor. My maiden name was Claire
Tomkinson but my married name is Marchbank. I went to
Westwood High School from 1979 to 1986. I am quite pleased
to have the ability to read the Leek Post and Times online,
but it is quite saddening to see that Leek hasn't progressed
and everybody is complaining about the same old things,
little has changed. Hope to hear from somebody Wed, 20 Jun 2001 Hi everyone! Just wondered if people were aware of Leek's place in the history of menageries in Britain. Local boy James Bostock joined Wombwell's travelling menagerie, married the boss's niece, and ended up running his own travelling menagerie named Bostock & Wombwell's. It was the last of the big, old-style menageries, touring until the early 1930s when most of the animals were sold to the newly-created Whipsnade. If there's anyone out there with any information on Bostock, his menagerie, or other travelling menageries please get in touch on: gwyngriffiths@bushinternet.com Regards, Fri, 15 Jun 2001 A short message from the other Leek: in The Netherlands near Groningen. What a surprise to discover this website. So many things are comparable with us and yet so different. I hope the twinning idea will succeed. Here in Holland we are contacting as many organizations as possible to develop small-scale ideas of twinning. Your website is an example for us! Luc Eekhout Wed, 13 Jun 2001 Will someone please give my congratulations to an ex pupil emloyee of mine Mr David Proctor who has obtained his architectural degree and qualifications following 6 years hard university training, his parents Pat and Graham live at the top of Westwood estate I'll bet they are as proud as punch, all the best David you deserve it. Mon, 11 Jun 2001 In answer to Rob Stockley .My names Bill and I carve stone mushrooms, Millwheels, Easter Island faces and much more. You can see them at www.themushroommanfromleek.co.uk Thank you Leek Online your doing a great job. Mon, 11 Jun 2001 I just wanted to say thank you to the people who responded to my request for info on old friends. I read the Leek Post online and while I cant say I miss Leek, I do miss some of the people. If anyone knows Paul and Claire McCarthy, say hello for me. Sun, 10 Jun 2001 As I've been a resident of Leek all my life I'd like to
say how much I enjoyed looking and reading all the messages
on this page. I attended Westwood High School between 1977
and 1982 and my maiden name was Priestnall. It would be nice
to hear from fellow pupils and see what they've got up to
since leaving school. Sat, 9 Jun 2001 The man from San Francisco is back in circulation - minus one kidney and feeling not so good but improving. Doctors orders are to take it easy - be in touch. Thur, 7 Jun 2001 What a great site, I really enjoy looking at the pictures of Leek. I'm now living in New Zealand and it's brought back some lovely memories of my old town. Jennifer
Holmes Sun, 3 Jun 2001 Hi everybody back home in good old Leek! Just like to say hello to everyone who knows and
remembers me from Springfield high back in the good old
sixties, say hello to Geoff Pickford and Scott the
moorlander it's about time we had some more pictures Scott!
! ! best wishes Neil Whiston, Fri, 01 Jun 2001 Behind the Old Tanyard (now a builders yard) at the
bottom of the Old Bank was a stream which ultimately flowed
under the California car park to the brough park boating
pond (now filled in), The stream used to power a large
waterwheel. A little further up the valley facing Ball Haye
Terrace and backing on to the rosebank street gardens was a
small house. It was built of red, white and blue brick. On
the front were two stone circular carvings approx 1 metre
high. One was of an old man, the other was a youth. There
was a large stone approx 6 ft by 2ft between them on it was
inscribed Can anyone help? Tue, 29 May 2001 Does anyone remember Yvonne and Peter Holden who ran Yates Wine Lodge in the 1970's? Their daughter Caroline was my best friend at St Mary's school and then in the first year at Painsley and I would love to get in touch with her again. If anyone can help please e mail me. Thu, 24 May 2001 Hi this is LAWRENCE PATRICK HANLEY and I was born in leek
and moved to Australia in 1966 I last visited Leek in 1987
but did not have time to catch up with everyone and would
like to contact them as we are planning to come over
sometime next year so if these people read this please try
to contact me Mon, 14 May 2001 Dear Leek Online, I am trying to contact the Mushroom Man who produces stone mushrooms, millstones etc. I think he is in the Ipstones/Froghall area, any chance you know his Web page or email address. Many Thanks Wed, 09 May 2001 Stumbled upon this wonderful idea when trying to find information of Leek. I have traced my ancestors back to the 1600 and they remained in Leek until the 1800. Some may still be there. Their name orginated as Bocock, then went to Boocock and eventually settled on Bowcock. My Grandfather came to Canada in 1904. The line moved from Leek to Derby in 1849 and then to West Leicester in 1882 approximately. Anyone who thinks there may be a connection, I would be very pleased to hear from you. Muriel Goodwin Wed, 16 May 2001 Has anyone any information on the Walklett family as I would like to follow the family tree. Thu, 10 May 2001 Thanks for all the news, I'm so happy to have discovered this great web site a few
weeks ago. I have lived in Ontario, Canada for the last 42
years, but have never lost my interest in the country in
which I spent the first 21 years of my life. Thanks again. Keep up the good work Yours truly, Tue, 15 May 200 Leek is a very friendly town. A lot of the people came to Leek after the war. My own mother was stationed with the RAF in Cheadle following the war and met my father. He died some 40 years ago, but my mother remained here with the many friends she had made. Leek is a safe town that I enjoy living in. Tue, 15 May 2001 Here's another NZ message! You can't get much further away from Leek than this: Waimatuku on the South coast of The South Island.Greetings from Kieran & Janet Turner, we lived on Junction Rd for a couple of years 1975-77. Great to read the Leek Post on line. Kieran, Janet, Kate & Laura Turner. Mon, 7 May 200 We really like the new improved version of your site. The
photos are particulary good, and its great to read the Leek
Post in Nelson, New Zealand. Sat, 5 May 2001 I was most interested to be able to look up what is
happening in Leek. My grandfather was born in Leek in 1873.
Does anyone have connections to the surnames BROOME &
JAMES. The BROOMES lived in the building which I now believe
is the TSB in the Market Place area. BROOME christian names
were Joseph father of- Elizabeth Albert Rose Frederick C
William Henry. My grandfather William Henry BROOME came to
New Zealand when he was approx. 21 years of age and was the
maker of Swandri waterproof garments.

to be sure to look at the wonderful photos of the moorlands
there. So I did and goosebumps arose all over me to see all
my old cycling haunts again. Marvellous. We now live in
Canberra, Australia which is also a beautiful town/small
city surrounded by high land - in this case the low ranges
of the Brindabellas and here, also, I can be cycling on
quiet rural roads in 15 mins or so. Dave Knowles Sun, 15 Apr 2001 18 years ago, I married a girl from Leek. Since then I

I look forward to reading it every week to see what is happening around town. New Zealand Sun, 1 Apr 2001 I moved from Leek to Devon with my family in 1984 at the age of 13 and I was delighted to find this web site especially the Post and Times. Are there any budding historians with any information? My email is chrisedwards36@hotmail.com or my mobile phone number is 07720602469. Many thanks for your time. Mon, 12 Feb 2001 Residents of Leek may well be interested to know that the stationary Steam Engine which once powered the lace looms at the Wellington Mill in Leek can now be viewed at the Llywernog Silver-lead Mines Museum in Ceredigion (Cardiganshire) Mid Wales! The engine arrived in bits from the Shugborough Hall Museum in about 1978 and has been put back together as a static exhibit. So if you are ever in Mid Wales, come and see a bit of old Leek ! The mining museum is the real thing dating from 1750 with underground tunnels which you can explore. We dress you up as miners to look at the silver-lead veins deep under the hill. Located 11 miles inland from Aberystwyth on the A.44. Fri, 9 Mar 2001 My name is Jessie Hudson and my family was and still is in the Leek area. Just spent a week with you in the snow and rain, must admit May was a bit more pleasant but no more beautiful. Looking for anyone who might have information on one Lousia Besfer Johnson. She was married to Isaac Johnson who is buried with her. She served a midwife in Leek and is buried in the Leek cemetery. Listed in her obituary are nephews with the surnames , Rider, Byrne, Gould, and Hughes. She is spoken very highly of in her obit. and I would love to get to know some more of my family. You can mailto:lemuelh@wwdb.org. Can't thank everyone enough for a wonderful visit and we will be back very soon. Sat, 3 Mar 2001 I was brought up believing that my family once had a connection with James Brindley - canal engineer. Although this is doubtful, can anyone shed any light on the matter. My grandmother was Charlotte Brindley and her mother was Sarah Brindley, both of Liverpool.
Sat, 24 Feb 2001 Hello Leek I have been introduced to your site by two of my ex pupils David Hunt and John Maycock. From 1957 to 1960 I was the Art Master at Leek High and I remember fondly my days at the school and at my home on Ladderedge. If there any old boys left who still remember me I would be delighted to hear from them, that goes for "old" members of staff too! My e-mail address is Hughesmasterdon@AOL.com Fri, 23 Feb 2001 Like others, I too stumbled on this site via the Abbey
Inn. Plenty of useful info for strangers and potential
visitors like myself. Fri, 23 Feb 2001 Greetings to the Greek community of Leek, Yes, it's me ." The Greek from Leek". I'm sorry I've been remiss in corresponding but I've been on a world tour visiting other famous Greek communities. I look forward to sipping on a pint of ouzo at the"Blue Mugge" on my return. I've missed you all but no matter how far I roam I always call Leek home. I'll be back at Vicarage Road soon, so I'll see you then. All the warmest of Greek love to you all, The Greek from (you know where) Wed, 21 Feb 2001 Wonderful site, gets better and better. Any old pictures of a silk mill in the area of Mill Road or nearby? Been researching my grandmothers' family all seem to be from Leek and worked in Mill. 1851 Whites Directory has William Ball, Silk Twister by commission of Mill St, Leek Also list him as manufacturer. Seems most of the family attended St. Edward's Church & some at St. Luke's. Any old pictures of these ? evidently some of the Wm. Ball family lived on Buxton Rd & Thomas Millward family on Union St., Wm. Hersey on Spout St. Trying to find information on a Robert Hersey Balls Death and Burial place. Sun, 4 Feb 2001 Does anyone know the whereabouts of Dave Alcock or John Lee who both use to work at the Grand cinema in the late 50s early 60s? 1953 and lived there until 1970 when I moved to the south
coast of England - Portsmouth and Southsea - to join my
grandmother, Alice Booth. I went to Westwood Hall Girls
School between 1965 and 1969 and I would be very interested
to hear from anyone else who attended at that time, who
might recognise my name! My brother is Neil Whiston whom I
believe has been in touch with you already - he lives in
Germany and has done since the early 70's. Hanley. Tue, 19 Dec 2000 Merry Christmas to the leek website and its emailers from two ex pats, we miss Leek even if there seems to be little to do to one day visitors we always found plenty to do in the community joined clubs visited peak park worked hard but we do like the weather here we still are getting warm days and sunshine with very little rain and looking forward to Xmas all the best Leekensians keep this site going Sun, 17 Dec 2000 With regard to the Rennies comments (Dec 2) plus various other comments following. Ed. Er...have you heard of a little place called Alton Towers? And I'm not sure what you would do almost anywhere in Britain when the weather is, as usual, inclement. Nobody has ever tried to portray Leek as a holiday resort. Sun, 17 Dec 2000 With regard to the Rennies comments (Dec 2) plus various other comments following. Ed. In reply to Miniquips question, there's not much I would
expect to do in a midlands town in the middle of winter,
because, there was little to do at the height of summer when
I was there. Sat, 16 Dec 2000 How great to find this site. One of the best I have seen. Went on the search because I am a Leek, I am at least third generation American, but because no one on that side of the family would ever discuss anything about the original Leek imigrant Don't know anything. Is there any history of Leeks leaving in night for parts unknown? Will visit again and hope to travel to Leek. Sat, 16 Dec 2000 I was born in Leek in 1958. My family lived in Hillswood Avenue until we moved to Western Australia in 1967. I still have very strong attachments to the town and was able to return for a wonderful visit in 1995. I went to Westwood County Primary from Year 1 to Year 6. I found this website accidentally whilst searching for something else and was thrilled to see several names that I remember. I'd love to hear from anyone who knew me back in the 60's. Wed, 13 Dec 2000 With regard to the Rennies comments (Dec 2) I thought Rennies were those pills that are supposed to neutralize stomach acid... Oh well, I was right about the pills... Fri, 8 Dec 2000 With regard to the Rennies comments (Dec 2) What, exactly, did the Rennies plan to do with a young
family, in a midlands town, in the middle of winter anyway?
It's not like the website advertises Disney-style
amusements, is it? Fri, 8 Dec 2000 I work at Pinewood Fabrics in which is situated in what was Pickfords Mill, later known as California Mill. It is a fascinating building with many of its original features still intact. Our offices are in what was the workers cottages. I am trying to research the history of the mill and would be grateful to hear from anyone who can tell me anything about the mill or any stories about the mill. I would also love to see any photo's. Many Thanks Fri, 8 Dec 2000 As a regular to your site I want to say again how interesting and user friendly it is. I particularly enjoy the Post & Times link and the photo's, historic and new. Everything loads easily and its easy to move around the site. Thu, 7 Dec 2000 With regard to the Rennies comments (Dec 2) Unfortunately we cannot control the weather here in Leek. I agree there are some areas of the town which need improving, and improvements are being made constantly, but I believe there are far more good points than bad about the town, and I for one am proud to be a Leekensian. Everyone is entitled to their views, and I'm sure I could find fault with any town in the country if I set my mind to it. As they say: "if you've got nowt nice to say, say nowt" Tue, 5 Dec 2000 With regard to the Rennies comments (Dec 2) Theres always somebody whos got to moan about things. The weather may be bad at times, and some buildings could do with a face-lift. But the town is not dirty. You managed to suffer it for a week anyway. Next time instead of moaning, pack your bags jump into the car and bog off to somewhere else. Sat, 2 Dec 2000 Me and my young family spent a week in your area in the
summer. I had found your website prior to our visit and
myself and the family were really loking forward to our
visit.

I was born and bred in Leek then emigrated to Australia in 1971. Thanks to your site I have made contact with an old friend not heard of for 34 years! I used to be Pat Buxton - then Mellor. Wed, 22 Nov 2000 I have visited my friend for two summers, so I am iterested in the weather there and any other news available. Tue, 21 Nov 2000 I am trying to trace my wifes family name (milner)They lived in Leek around 1900. My Wifes Grandfather used to walk to Buxton to work in the quarries. Regards Thu, 9 Nov 2000 I enjoyed you site and will visit again. I think I have ancestors Isaac & Samuel Goldstraw/Goostrey buried in a family grave at St Edward the Confessors. Although its 200 years since we moved to Australia looking at your site made me homesick. Any chance of a photo of St Edward the Confessor Church and/or Churchyard? Dowding Sun. 17 Sept 2000 Can anyone help please? I am trying to locate members of the Eccleston family who emigrated to Ohio in the 1920/30s from the north Staffordshire area. Their names were Jack and Dora (nee Smith) and they had at least two children , Jack and Arthur. I am sure many of the family still live in and around Ohio. Sat, 16 Sep 2000 Pleased to see that the deadline for John and Ann Christie's move has been postponed until mid-October. That gives us all more time to say how sorry we are that they are leaving Leek. From Wed, 13 Sep 2000 Your efforts in producing such an excellent website are greatly appreciated by me, a born and bred Leekensian who moved to the wilds of Yorkshire in 1968. During the intervening years I have kept in touch with Leek news via family, friends and copies of the Leek Post and Times. To browse through your site is a delight and many memories are stirred by the images and text therein. Keep up the good work! Brian
Rushton Mon, 11 Sep 2000 Nice to see the Leek web site. Hope there will soon be a webcam looking up Derby Street or St. Edward's Street. Even better, a webcam so the world could watch the double sunset from St. Edward's churchyard. Terrence
